Read later for recommendations
Marking content as Read Later often? You can now do this much faster with a button in our Assistant and on the Discovery Tab.
When you open chat on a page, you'll now see a button to mark something as Read Later. You'll find all of your read laters in your marks overview.
We've added search to Marks, both in the Assistant and on the New Tab
Clicking a conversation on the New Tab will now open the page AND open the Assistant automatically.
In our quest to make the web a more social place, we have had the pleasure of meeting several Wikipedians. These volunteers spend a lot of their time keeping one of humanity's most valuable projects running. They also need to communicate and coordinate with each other at times. This has proven to be somewhat clunky nowadays editing every page’s talk section.
This is one of the reasons that has led us to create Metachat, a Chrome extension to communicate on every page of the web.
Open a chat room on any page of Wikipedia
After installing and registering (pseudonymously), open any page on Wikipedia or any public page on the web for that matter. You’ll see a blue button in the top right corner that you can click to open a chat room for that specific page. You can use this to talk with other people on the same page.
Label any page with public tags, called “marks"
Add one or more “marks” to any page. These are tags that are shared with everyone. You can use this to organize and retrieve your pages and make public collections of links. Anyone can see your marks and you can see anyone else’s marks.
An overview where it all comes together
Open a new tab to see all of the conversations, marks, and a stream of recommendations for new pages that might be interesting to you.
Update your profile with a picture and bio
Click your profile to update it with a little bit of information about yourself.
You can download Metachat here.

Alpha User Event #1
We will be working on loads of feedback received at our 1st alpha user event.
This week the first batch of a series of improvements to tighten privacy are available:
How do you know which websites are tracked?
The Chathead (aka metabol), now indicates what it tracks and what it does not.
Our AI department has implemented several improvements to the recommendations this week, one of which is the introduction of a few bot users. For now, these bots follow news feeds like Ars Technica, The Verge, De Redactie, Wired, ... . If you have suggestions for interesting news sources, just mention them @support.
Marks Available In Chat
Clicking the navigation in chat multiple times reloaded the frame and sent you to a different chat room. First reported by @snarf, and confirmed by many other users as well. Thanks for reporting this!

"Being Read Right Now" and “Network" removed
Following up on privacy concerns we removed 2 sections on the Newtab:
When a new conversation is started, we’ll make you aware of that by changing the Chathead’s color to red.
Recommendations now appear in chat
When you visit a website we’ll help you find other interesting stuff based on your profile.
We’ve made a small update to the /help command ...
